It’s time to get ready for the Discovery 2012 Science Exposition
All students in the U-46 and Gail Borden Library districts are invited to participate in this year’s science fair. The fair will give students the opportunity to identify a topic or question that is interesting to them, and then design an experiment and collect data to find the answer. It is always exciting to see what these young scientists come up with – it may be something we have all wondered about!
Students have a hands-on opportunity to use the critical thinking, literacy, math, and of course, science concepts and skills that they have learned to explore concepts of interest to them. Their excitement sharing what they have learned is contagious.
Students will present their projects to the community at the Exposition held at the Gail Borden Library, on April 14, 2012.
This is also an opportunity for community members to support the students by serving as “judges” for the event. The goal of the exposition is to promote an interest in science - not judge their work. A desire to learn and an ability to listen are the only skills necessary for the job! You will be assigned several students and be able to listen to their presentation and ask them questions about their project. We often discuss wanting to improve education but this is a way to interact with students one-on-one and encourage their work.
Volunteers will be available at the Gail Borden Library to help students and families identify or research a topic or create their display board. Check the informational flyer below. Proposals must be submitted by March 9, 2012.
