School District U-46 is pleased to be among a small number of school districts across the nation, and the only known Illinois school district, to become ISO 9001:2008 certified. ISO 9001:2008 certification is an internationally recognized standard for quality management which was developed by the International Organization for Standardization.
But what does certification really mean?
It means that School District U-46 has established policies and procedures that have been well communicated. It means the district continually measures its effectiveness. And, it means that the district engages its internal and external customers with the goal of improving satisfaction.
An independent review found U-46 conforms to international quality management system standards in several key areas, including:
- Curriculum;
- Payroll;
- Finance;
- Plant Operations;
- Transportation;
- Human Resources;
- Information Services;
- Business Services;
- Food and Nutrition;
- District Records;
- Capital Planning;
- District Safety and Security.
The ISO 9001:2008 process was developed for use in the business sector. However, in recent years it has become popular among school districts and in the government sector as a method of promoting continuous improvement.
