Grant for World Language Academy at Streamwood High School
Streamwood High School houses the U-46 World Language and International Study Academy. Students attending the academy focus on languages, international business and world cultures.
One of the languages taught is Japanese. Incoming seniors taking the course have the opportunity to take a three-week trip to Japan. During their trip they will live with a host family and visit the famous sites. Students speak Japanese only which helps them prepare for the senior year Advanced Placement course.
Omron, Inc., a Japanese based company in Schaumburg, presented the Academy with a check for $10,000 on January 15. The funds will be used to help defer the cost of the Japanese trip.
This is the third year that OMRON has provided funding for the trip and has become partners with the academy since learning about the program. This company dedicates 0.1% of its profits to help schools teaching Japanese. Omron also provides job shadowing for students each year allowing them to spend the whole day there working with employees.
